These Terms of Service ("Terms") cover your use of timezone.io: the website, team boards and the API (together, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Issoudun Pte. Ltd., a company incorporated in Singapore ("we", "us" or "our"). Our company details are on the legal information page.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service on behalf of a company or other organization, you agree to them on its behalf. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Age requirement: you must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent where you live, if that is higher) to create an account or join a team board.
2. Service Description
timezone.io provides:
- Time zone information: current local times, UTC offsets, daylight saving schedules and time conversions for time zones, countries and cities.
- Team boards: a page that shows a team's members grouped by their local time.
- The API: a REST API for the same time zone data, documented at timezone.io/docs.
3. Registration and API Keys
- You need an account with a verified email address to create team boards and API keys. Give us accurate details and keep your password secure.
- Do not create more than one account to get around limits.
- API keys are confidential. All usage with your keys is attributed to your account. If a key is exposed, revoke it in your API token settings and create a new one.
- We may refuse or close accounts that appear fraudulent or abusive.
4. Acceptable Use
You may not use the Service:
- For unlawful purposes, or to support spam, fraud or harassment
- To impersonate anyone, or to add someone to a team board without their permission
- To publish unlawful, offensive or misleading content, including in team names, member details and photo links
- To link images or other content meant to track, deceive or harm the people who view a team board
- To damage, overload or disrupt the Service, or to test it for vulnerabilities without our permission
- To get around rate limits or other restrictions, for example with extra accounts or keys
- To scrape the website in bulk (use the API for automated access)
- In violation of any applicable laws
We may remove content that breaks these rules. To report abuse or a security issue, email [email protected].
5. API Usage and Rate Limiting
- Rate limits: we limit how many requests each account can make. The current limits are in the API docs.
- Fair use: if an account's traffic degrades the Service for others, we may throttle it. Repeated or deliberate abuse may result in temporary or permanent suspension of its keys or the account.
- Commercial use: you may use the API in commercial products and services.
- Changes to the API: the API is versioned. We may add endpoints, fields and parameters to a version at any time. We will give at least 90 days' notice, by email and in the API docs, before we remove or change anything in a way that could break an existing integration, or retire a version, unless a change is urgently needed for security or legal reasons.
6. Service Availability and Accuracy
No warranty. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, to the extent the law allows. We do not guarantee a specific uptime.
Accuracy. Governments set time zone and daylight saving rules, sometimes at short notice, and a change can take effect before our data reflects it. Check times that matter against an official source.
7. Team Boards
- Boards are public: anyone with a board's link can see its members' names, cities, countries, photos and local times, and search engines may index a board they find. Only add details you are happy to share publicly, and only link photos you have the right to use.
- Private links: share a board's invite link only with people you want on the board, and keep the link for editing your own entry private: anyone who has it can change your entry.
8. Intellectual Property
The Service's software, design and text, and the way we compile and present its data, belong to us and are protected by copyright and other laws.
Much of the underlying data comes from open sources, such as the IANA Time Zone Database and GeoNames, and remains under their own licenses. These Terms do not limit the rights those licenses give you.
Content you add, such as team names and member details, remains yours. You allow us to store and display it to run the Service.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the extent the law allows:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, such as the cost of a meeting missed because a time was wrong.
- Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the fees you paid for the Service in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Data Resale and Redistribution
You may show API results to the users of your own products and services. You may not:
- Resell, sublicense or share access to the API or your API keys with third parties
- Offer a product or service whose main purpose is to republish our data in bulk, such as a mirror of the API or the website
Data from open sources remains under its own license (see section 8), which may require attribution when you redistribute it.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms by publishing the revised version at timezone.io/legal/terms and updating the date at the top. Changes apply to new users immediately. If a change materially affects your rights, we will email account holders at least 30 days before it applies to them.
If you continue using the Service after a change applies to you, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, your remedy is to stop using the Service and delete your account.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time, and delete your account in your profile settings.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you break these Terms, if the law requires it, or to protect the Service or its users.
If we decide to shut down the Service or the API, we will give at least 90 days' notice by email and on the website.
Sections 6, 8 to 10 and 13 continue to apply after your access ends.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Singapore. The courts of Singapore have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.
