History
How Chad keeps time.
**Chad has used West Africa Time (UTC+01:00) since 1912, under French colonial rule, and kept it at independence in 1960.** Its only change since was a brief summer time from October 1979 to March 1980, when clocks moved to UTC+02:00.
Chad stretches from about 14°E to 24°E, so its far east is closer to UTC+02:00 by solar time, making the UTC+01:00 offset a practical if not perfectly solar-aligned choice.
